WHAT IS A MUSCLE CAR?

By Vas Comblas.

Muscle cars are bold and powerful. An American invention that started to appear in the 1960s and early 1970s, they were rear-wheel-drive, two-door American production cars equipped with a large V8 engine, wide tires, flared fenders, and large hood scoops.

Muscle cars existed primarily to go fast in a straight line, whereas true sports cars also emphasize handling. Muscle cars were often purchased for drag racing (at the track or on the street) or just cruising around.

It’s important to note that all muscle cars are sports cars, but not all sports cars are muscle cars!

The love for muscle cars hasn’t faded, just ask Matthew McConaughey, owner of a 1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, Justin Timberlake who owns a 1967 Pontiac GTO or John Cena owner of several muscle cars including a 1970 Plymouth Superbird.

Today muscle car aficionado’s usually go for a Ford Mustang, Camaro SS, Dodge Charger or the ‘true’ muscle car the Dodge Challenger.
